Here below you can find a list of project and portfolio management software suites. Some applications are freeware, while others are to be purchased being commercial products.
The list is not supposed to be exhaustive and it is being updated on a spot/request basis.

Opensource

• OpenProj. It is a desktop project management application, similar to Microsoft Project. It has a familiar user interface and even opens existing MS Project files. OpenProj is inter-operable with Project, Gantt Charts and PERT charts.

• Gantter. It is a free web/cloud based project management tool. It allows integration with Google drive to store projects.

• Codendi. It is an open source platform for managing the life cycle of software applications. Based on a LAMP architecture, Codendi integrates the best open-source tools for industrial development, project management and collaboration.

• Project Net. Open source, enterprise-class, web-based project management solution.

• Endeavour. Endeavour Agile Application Lifecycle Management is an Open Source solution to manage the creation of large-scale enterprise systems in an iterative and incremental development process

Commercial license

• Microsoft Project 2010. It is definitely one of the most common suites in the market.

• Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM). It is a Project and Portfolio Management suite, which includes the following software: Microsoft SharePoint server 2010, Microsoft Project Server 2010, Microsoft Project Professional 2010 and SQL server 2008

• Deltek. They provide a number of cloud or desktop based solutions for management, like Vision or Costpoint. 

• Primavera P6 Professional Project Management and Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management. They are suites developed by Oracle for large and structured companies. The first is common for planning, organizing and monitoring projects using a client/server architecture, while the second application suite is a solution totally web based, which enables enterprises to manage portfolios of projects of any size.

• RationalPlan is a powerful project management software designed to help both teams and project managers to create consistent project plans, allocate resources and analyze workload, track work progress, estimate project costs and manage budgets

• Merlin 2. is a nice GANTT editor, with the possibility to import/export/integrate from other applications (including MS Project). Also, Merlin has a provision to allow access/collaboration/sharing online between different users. The software runs with MAC OSX.
